NFT.NYC is in my hometown this week so what an appropriate time to share the experience of my first Crypto / Blockchain conference at Miami NFT Week earlier this year in April 2022. Having never attended a live Tech Event (thanks, Covid), I was a full noob- wide eyed, and bushy tailed excited by the energy of innovation and forward thinking. Crytpo events are known to be grandiose, and this was no exception. With 250 speakers including many leaders of the industry, over a hundred Web 3 companies present, celebrity investor appearances like music artists Wyclef, French Montana as well as Hall of Fame wide receiver Cris Carter, and networking parties every night in lavish venues, this week came as billed.
From the onset, the entrance to the symposium certainly did not disappoint. I crossed streets lined with NFT-related artwork as I made my way to the front and was welcomed by the sounds of the most current Hip Hop / EDM tunes at the DJ stage to the right and the inviting smell of eco conscious food trucks to the right. Propped in between are a host of high-priced cars of Crypto elites and fun themed sets and models playing dress up with looks that were worthy of social media. This alone would make a proper festival. However, this convention was much more then Music and Social post, these were but a resonance to the fact that I was embarking down a new rabbit hole, and I certainly "....wasnt in Kansas anymore".
Once fully inside, the Convention Center was split into two section past the Main hall. To the right you can hear the buzz of Merchants and Builders Booth, artist and developers discussing their passions and flexing their tech savvy muscle without extensive and thought out roadmaps to distinguish value for the long run. With so many Vendors from Sports Memorabilia to augmented reality to better meditation, it took me all 3 days to meet everyone and discuss their projects and plans for application among the masses. To the left of the Main Hall was the massive Main stage where speakers talked to crowds of up to 3000+ in attendance when the likes of Mark Cuban, Grant Cardone and Nicole the Crypto Witch of Shopify took the stage. Discussing the transformation at hand of the concept of the internet as we know it. Not only the massive adoption of blockchain technology by big brands but also how it has already begun and will continue to improve payment processing, customer engagement, retention, and new marketing opportunities to name a few use cases.
The novelty is also the true beauty of the crypto space and its influence on the tech industry. We are at the dawn of the Web 3 age and has created a fertile ground for creation and opportunity for artists and visionaries to build and revolutionize the structure of our society. The enthusiasm of merchants to disrupt sectors from biometrics to music to ticketing and especially financial management, putting the power in the hands of the consumer is infectious. It was the general atmosphere of the City of Miami welcoming the tech business Bros with open arms and pockets. Hosting Bitcoin 2022 the following week, Miami (in addition to the actual favorable climate) has cemented itself as a hotbed for Blockchain technology to continue to transcend markets. Most exciting to me is incorporating AI to streamline processes and create a better functioning society. At least that is what I hope for.
